Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

The short version: you can play Pidgin without an account, and your progress then stays in your browser. We count visits and puzzle plays with cookie-free analytics. If you sign in (with Google or an email link), we store your email, name and puzzle results in Supabase (US) so your progress and streaks follow you between devices. We never show ads or sell data. To delete your account, email hello@dailypidgin.com.

Who we are

Pidgin (dailypidgin.com) is a set of daily word and language puzzles run by an individual in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In this policy, "Pidgin", "we" and "us" mean that operator.

Person responsible for the protection of personal information: the operator of Pidgin, reachable at hello@dailypidgin.com. This is the contact for any question, request or complaint about your personal information, as required by Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25).

Playing without an account

If you don't sign in, your game progress (results, streaks, stats and which how-to screens you have seen) is stored only in your browser's local storage. It is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes it.

Analytics

We use PostHog, hosted in the United States, to understand how the site is used. It does not use cookies. It keeps an anonymous identifier in your browser's local storage and records:

We use this only to count visits and see which puzzles are too hard, too easy or broken. We don't record your screen, and we don't link analytics to your name or email.

Signing in

Signing in is optional, and the games work fully without it. You can sign in with Google or with a sign-in link sent to your email.

We store these, together with your puzzle results (the date and game, whether you solved each item, your guesses, hints used, time taken and score), in Supabase, our database provider, hosted in the United States. Your session is kept in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in. When you sign in, results already saved in that browser are copied to your account. We use all of this only to sign you in and to sync your progress and streaks across your devices. Analytics events from a signed-in browser are linked to your account's ID (never your name or email) so we can count players correctly. We don't use them to send marketing email, and we don't share them with anyone except the service providers named in this policy, who process them on our behalf.

Pidgin's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What we don't do

Where your information is stored

Our service providers (PostHog for analytics, Supabase for accounts, and Netlify, which hosts the website) may store and process information outside Quebec and Canada, including in the United States. Information stored there is subject to the laws of that country. We choose providers that protect information with safeguards such as encryption in transit and access controls.

How long we keep it

Account information and results are kept for as long as you have an account. Analytics events are kept for as long as PostHog's retention settings for our project allow, and are used only in aggregate.

Your rights, and deleting your account

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have your account and all of its data deleted. Email hello@dailypidgin.com from the address linked to your account and say what you would like us to do. We respond within 30 days.

You can also stop sharing with Pidgin at any time by removing it from your Google account's third-party connections. To remove progress stored without an account, clear this site's data in your browser.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

Children

Pidgin is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has signed in, email us and we will delete their account.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
